LAw Enforcement at the time believed that they were forced off the road and taken into the desert where they were burned with cigarettes and beaten. They both died from gunshot wounds to the left temple but they were not sexually assaulted. Some jewelry was missing from the victims but other valuable items were not. Robbery was a possible motive, but why was some items not taken. It is possible that they were killed because their assailants thought they were hiding something valuable. Brutal Yogurt Shop Murders Still Unsolved

A grisly discovery was made when the naked bodies of four teenage girls lay on the floor of the shop. They had been bound with their own clothes and each shot in the head. The victims were identified as 13-year-old Amy Ayers, 17-year-old Eliza Thomas, 17-year-old Jennifer Harbison and her 15-year-old sister Sarah Harbison. Autopsy reports indicated that Amy was shot twice in the head, once with a .22-caliber and once with a .380-caliber. Murder That Changed Country Still Unsolved

It was January 13, 1996, when nine year old Amber Hagerman was with her brother and they were bicycling in the parking lot of an empty shopping center in the town of Arlington. Her brother would bike to a relative's home without her and that was the last her family saw her alive. She would be found several days later deceased. Her body was without any clothing, her throat cut and she was left in a creek behind an apartment building not even five miles where she was abducted. Police have a possible description of a suspect but it s limited. The killer may have been a white or Hispanic male between the ages 25 and 40. He may have been under 6 feet tall with a medium build. He may have drove a late-1980s or early-1990s model full-size American-made black truck.

The case would eventually influence a national broadcasting system that would notify the public of children abducted in dangerous situations. It was called the Amber alert and it would entail the use of highway signs and tv/radio broadcasts. It has helped many children be recovered safely. But it is a tragedy that the young girl who it is named for still has not gotten justice.
